There are many misconceptions about homelessness. Know the facts.
On any given night, approximately 750,000 men, women, and children are homeless in the US.  

1. The most recent count of the homeless was conducted on January 27, 2011. A preliminary briefing on the census was given at the State of the Homeless Address on February 16, 2011. See a copy of that presentation here.

Homelessness is a problem that affects thousands of people across the United States. Many people are forced to live on the streets and in extreme poverty due to various circumstances. People who fall into homelessness face many barriers and obstacles that prevent them from having stability and a sense of comfort and security in their lives. Homelessness can affect anybody and everybody.

3. Poverty Challenge 2011
The Poverty Challenge is a 3-day consciousness-raising event about poverty in the greater Buffalo region. Those involved will attempt to keep to a poverty budget, making choices each day about food, personal care, transportation, and related costs on a limited budget to show solidarity with those in poverty who struggle with these choices every day.

4. 2011 Homeless Count Key Fact
As the lead agency for the Los Angeles Continuum of Care (CoC), the Los Angeles Homeless Services
Authority (LAHSA) conducts the homeless count every two years.The 2009 Count found an estimated 42,694 homeless people.
